HGHS1981 Grad Caroline Ovca Metz In AccidentGreeley alumni Caroline Metz (Ovca) was in a freak accident recently. She sustained 2nd degree burns and has been in the burn unit for 10 days now. Caroline is a single mother of 3 and will be out of work for some time. Gail Patrick's Cafe will be taking donations and also donating 15% of all purchases at the cafe on Friday June 24th 2011 from 5 -10pm to help Caroline get through this tough time. Please tell all your friends to come by have dinner, listen to some music , meet friends and help out a friend! |

Chicken FatHey, Class of '80! If you had Mr. Baker for gym at Grafflin, you MUST remember the "chicken fat" song! It was part of the President's Fitness Program. I heard it yesterday, on NPR of all places, for the first time in over 30 years and it brought back a rush of memories for some very good years. Class of '80 check it out on YouTube - Dinah Shore Nanette Fabray Meredith Willson's "Chicken Fat". This, and a few other renditions, are sure to make you smile! What a blast from the past. |
Fun News: Classmate in filmAlthough we both left Greeley mid-stream to go to a private school, I recently stumbled upon a film from Netflix with a fellow 1976-7 Greeley classmate Meg Arader in it which I thought would be fun for others to see as well. It is seriously grade-B in nature, but its always fun to be in a movie as well as seeing a friend in one so I didn't think she'd mind my mentioning it so ... enjoy! Class of 1975 obituaryMadelyn Korth Blind passed away suddenly this month at her home in Rochester, NY. I know her as my best friend's older sister and as someone who truly lived life to its fullest; you may recall her as a friend or a fellow swimmer. She leaves behind her husband Pete; her mother Mary Korth Curran; her sisters Kate, Ellen, Vicki, and Marian; her brothers Jim, Jerry, and William (Bill); her step-father Bernie Curran, and her step-siblings Kathy, Bill, Jim, Ed, John, Pat, Dave, and Mike. keeping in touchThough I actually graduated from JFK, its the people I went to school with at Grafflin and Bell that I recall most clearly and dearly. One of my first reactions to Sept. 11 was to check the Greeley web site and to date, incredible as it seems, there are no casualties being reported. The only one I can add is that of Gary Haag, husband of Mary Roche '80, employed by a business in the WTC. I believe they have three children and a home in Ossining. Because of times like these, I am even more grateful for the years we all spent together in Chappaqua, and for the all too brief hours spent together at the reunion. Hope to see even more people at the next one! Where is John Marth? John Lowden? Betsey Oram? Jenny O'Donnell? Laurie Lopez? Kristin Fesnak? Bobby Usati? Frank Rodak? Kim Grehl? George Sabert? Contacting TeachersI was just reflecting upon the notes of several people asking for contact information of elementary school teachers and I too have wanted to contact a teacher I was fond of back in second grade. It occured to me that these teachers were not only licensed, but they were likely to have earned pensions if employed for any length of time with these schools. It seems to me that finding a place where their residence is known might not be as hopeless as it first seemed. I will look into it further and check back here with what I learn. |
I am aliveI got the announcement about the HG80 reunion and real sorry I missed it. It has taken ten years of working my ass off to realize I miss people I knew at HG. I am in Seattle now and would love to hear from any of my classmates who might happen to recall who I am... I am living now with my wife and two great little girls and am a university professor at the University of Washington. See Ya hopefull at R 2005 |

personal changesAfter 15 years in the newspaper business, I "retired" last month to be home fulltime with our two boys, ages 4.5 and 1.5 years old. I see how fleeting their childhood is and want to savor it with them. So far, I am really enjoying myself - though I don't have a lot of time to myself! Sometimes, being a fulltime parent feels like a countercultural decision. Fortunately, we live in a tightly knit community and know other parents staying home with their children. So I don't lack for adult companionship during the day. |
F.Y.I.Ann Marie (Rea) Tucci - Leonaggeo and her husband of 16+ years have lived in Las Vegas, Nevada for the past 11 years. They have two boys, Domenick who is 13 years old and Andrew who is 11 years old. |

Class of '80 Reunion recapJust wanted to say what a great time I had at the Class of '80 reunion. Thanks to everyone who helped organize this event. It meant alot to me to get so many warm welcomes from fellow classmates that I hadn't seen in twenty years. I still can't believe it's been twenty years! I am looking forward to the next reunion. |
Class of '80 20th Reunion recapHaving just returned from our 20th reunion I would like to say I am very proud to be a member of the class of '80. A fantastic effort by the very dedicated and hard working reunion committee. I think for thoise of us who were there it was definitely worth the "trip". I don't know about the rest of you but how weird was it walking into Calhouns on Friday night and seeing people you had not sseen for over twenty years? What was weirder is so many of them look like adult versions of themselves...oh yeah. I really enjoyed the reunion and hope our class can pull off a 25th! For those of you who missed the 20th I think you missed something very special so for you slackers that didn't make it let's get the ball rolling for the 25th. There will be McKluskey mud wrestling at the 25th along with Naked Groover Girls so be there or be lonely. |

Rachel Falconer '80Laurie Casey recently emailed me out of the blue and sent me information about this site. I am delighted to be back in touch with Greeley-ites. I've lost my 1980 Yearbook, and would love to know how to order a replacement copy. Are there spares in a closet somewhere? I am working at a university in the north of England, where at this time of year all you see is grey rain (Sheffield, home of the full monty). It's a time of year we tend to write more letters. The topic I'm interested in at the moment is literary descents into hell, in fiction written after 1945. Read any brilliant books on this theme lately? I would love to hear news from Drusie (1979) (a note to her: I still think it's Orion), or Tizzie Collins, Tara Lefton or Sue Friedman, or any of the Photography crowd, Adam Isidore (all 1980s). I would also love to contact my English teachers, or at least to know how many of them are still teaching at Greeley. I hold them personally responsible for where I am now! I often remember my art room days, some of my most content, and wonder whether it's changed. Recently, I took up the cello again, and in Sheffield Philharmonic, have rediscovered how fantastic it is to make a huge noise collectively. But is there anywhere I can get hold of that yearbook?
