Bob Oddo Posted by Jesse Chan-Norris re: HG1995 on February 25, 2021 I am sad to report that beloved science teacher Bob Oddo passed away on January 29th in Myanmar where he had been living and teaching. The preliminary autopsy revealed Bob died of an aortic aneurysm, with a secondary diagnosis of COVID. This web site probably would not exist without Oddo, who helped me get on the nascent world wide web from the office behind his classroom, and served as my advisor for my Senior Project which was Greeley's first website. Kenneth Tarbet '79 Posted by Jesse Chan-Norris re: HG1995 on May 7, 2018 Kenneth Tarbet, 54, of Blackfoot, Idaho passed away Thursday, August 18, 2016 at Bingham Memorial Hospital. He was born December 23,1961 to Willard J. Tarbet and Nelyne Gilbert Tarbet. Although he was raised in Chappaqua, New York, he spent his summers in southeastern Idaho with his grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles and cousins. Kenneth was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission to Paris, France, and held many callings over the years. He especially enjoyed serving in the Scouting Program. He loved Heavenly Father, and the Gospel. He found joy in sharing his testimony of the Savior with others and could always be found with a positive attitude and contagious smile. He truly found the beauty in all things and in everyone. Kenneth did his undergraduate work at BYU Provo, received his Phd in Chemistry at University of Utah, and J.D. at St. Lewis University. He practiced Patent Law in Illinois, Washington, California, Arizona and Idaho. He was a co-founder of BTKS BioDiesel. He was also a lacrosse enthusiast, playing lacrosse in high school and for four years at BYU. In 2015, he was inducted into the BYU Lacrosse Hall of Fame and recognized as a pioneer in leadership by his team members. He also enjoyed scouting, hiking, and demonstrated much creativity through making pottery and carving walking sticks. On September 30, of 2014 Kenneth married Shari Transtrum and moved to Blackfoot, ID. Kenneth is survived by his wife, Shari, of Blackfoot; children, Connor Tarbet of Seattle, WA and Katrina Tarbet Bowyer of Temecula, CA; stepson, Paul (Kira) McDaniels of Blackfoot; brothers, Bryon (Tara) Tarbet of Highland, UT and Craig (Cindy) Tarbet of Eagle Mountain, UT; sisters, Debbie (Blake) Jarman of Grass Valley, CA, Lynne (Tom) Rath of Grass Valley, CA, Tammy (Scott) Winterbottom of Charlottesville, VA, and Becky (Wes) Keetch of Lehi, UT; grandchildren, Deya, Evan and PJ McDaniels and 23 nieces and nephews. She must be a great cookie baker to have caught his eye!!!" Update: Michael L. Cesta, MD informs us that Al Damon was a History teacher, not a Math teacher. Another Update: Miss Rosoli's nephew informs us that while Mr. Damon did marry an English teacher named Clare, it was not Miss Risoli. We're sorry for the confusion.

The passing of Mr. Taylor Posted by Jesse Chan-Norris re: HG1995 on November 14, 2001 Marshall Moseley '79 points us to this 1997 obituary of Charles Taylor who was a teacher and then a guidance counselor at Greeley. --- Charles F. Taylor, July 20, 1997. After a year at Bates, where he roomed with high-school classmate Edmund Muskie '36, Charles Taylor's education was interrupted by the Depression. He spent several years at Butler Hospital Nurses' Training School in Providence, R.I., and at the Payne Whitney Psychiatric Clinic in New York City. During World War II, he spent three years in Eritrea with the hospital unit of Douglas Aircraft Co., where he established a psychiatric unit and was director of the nonmedical hospital staff. After the war he earned his B.A. and M.A. degrees from New York Univ., also doing graduate work at Columbia. For 31 years he taught at Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua, N.Y., and, in 1970, became guidance counselor. His relationships with former students continued through his retirement. Active in the community, Charlie Taylor received the first Citizen of the Year Award from the Newcastle Town Club for his work in organizing the Chappaqua Forum on American Foreign Policy. He also organized and was in charge of the first Student International Exchange at Horace Greeley, and directed the school's summer school program for six years. An officer in local educational associations, he had been a John Hay Fellow at the 1962 Colorado College Summer Institute, had taught at Colgate Univ.'s Conference on American Foreign Policy, and also lectured at Syracuse Univ. School of Journalism. He was a member and trustee of Chappaqua Historical Society, Phi Delta Kappa, a volunteer at Mount Kisco Day Care Center, and past president of Friends of the Library. Throughout his life he had traveled extensively in 50 states, Europe, Antarctica and New Zealand. In 1983 he moved to California to be near his family. He leaves daughter Shelley, grandchildren Sara and Charles, and two sisters. His wife, the former Pearl Harvey, predeceased him in 1974.
